What are RL environments?

A robot learns to walk by falling down thousands of times. AI is now learning office work the same way. It practices in something called an RL environment. RL stands for reinforcement learning.

I'm Jimmy Lin. I'm an AI training data broker.

In this video: what RL is, how robot RL and LLM RL are different, and why AI companies now pay for real company data to build these environments.

Do you run a company with twenty or more people? Stay to the end. The tickets and chats you already have could become a new source of revenue.

  2. AI models learned by reading. Websites, books, forums, code. Almost everything public.

But reading about a job isn't the same as doing it. You can read every book about swimming and still sink.

So AI companies now train models by practice. The model tries a task, gets a score, and tries again.

That's called reinforcement learning, or RL for short. And the place where it practices is the RL environment.

  3. Quick word about me. I work with data.

I've worked with Fortune 500 companies. I've been a data analyst, a data engineer and a software engineer. That includes a global software company and a defense contractor.

    I'm trained in data science.

I'm also a Canadian military veteran. I was an officer. My job was data analysis and reporting.

So I've seen both sides of the table. I know what company data looks like inside. And I know what AI builders need from it.

  4. Here's how reinforcement learning works. RL for short.

The AI gets a task. It tries something. Then it gets a score. Did it work or not?

Good moves get rewarded. Bad moves don't. Over millions of tries, it keeps what worked.

It's like training a dog. A treat for the right trick. Except the AI never gets tired.

The score is the key. If nobody can score the result, the AI can't learn from it.

  5. RL isn't new. What changed is where the AI practices.

Robot RL. A robot practices in a physics simulation first. A robot hand learned to solve a Rubik's cube that way. The reward: did it move without falling or dropping things?

Game RL. In 2016, a program called AlphaGo beat a world champion at Go. The reward: did it win?

LLM RL is the new one. An LLM is the kind of AI you chat with, the kind that writes answers. Now it's becoming an AI agent. An agent doesn't just answer. It does the work. It clicks, fills in forms and sends the email.

So it practices in a copy of an office. A CRM, a ticket queue, an inbox.

Early chatbots learned from people rating their answers. The newer way is stricter. A grader checks the system itself. Think of an answer key, or a manager checking the work. Was the ticket closed? Was the refund issued?

  6. So where does a simulated office come from? Real companies.

Say you run an HVAC company. A customer emails: the AC is dead. Your dispatcher books a tech. The part is on backorder, so the job gets rebooked. It gets fixed, and the invoice gets paid.

That's one real task. Builders pull tasks like that out of ordinary tickets, chats and CRM records.

Then they write a grader that checks the result. Was the job booked? Was the customer told? Did the invoice get paid?

Put thousands of those together and you get the environment. The place where an AI agent practices your kind of work.

You don't build any of this yourself. On your side it's mostly exporting the data, and we help with that. Your data is the seed.

  7. Here's the part that matters for you. A grader needs to know how the story ended. So data with outcomes is worth more.

Tickets closed with a resolution. Deals marked won or lost. Approvals that were logged.

Chat threads where people argued and changed the plan. That shows how people think.

One event that runs across email, chat and the CRM is worth more than any one of them alone.

And rare work pays more. Finance, legal, plumbing, roofing, HVAC. Work that barely exists online.

Here's a quick test. If a new hire read your old tickets and chats, could they learn the job? If yes, that's what AI companies want.

If most of your work happens on the phone, there's less on record. The free check at the end of this video tells you either way.

  8. Is there real money in this? In August, Google agreed to pay ten million dollars for Spirit Airlines' operating records. Reuters and CNN reported it. Most deals are much smaller. Buyers who have talked about it put a typical company deal at around two to three hundred thousand dollars. That's a reported range, not a promise. But it shows that everyday business records now have a buyer.

So you have data like this. What now? That's where a broker comes in.

First, competing offers. One buyer gives you one price. Several buyers give you the best price.

Second, the data itself. We help you export it, clean it and transfer it safely. Personal information is removed before training. How, and by whom, is written into the contract.

Third, the contract. How the files are handled, how long the license lasts. Every deal is different. We negotiate it for you, case by case.

It's a license. You keep your data and keep using it.

And I only get paid when a deal closes.

  9. So that's an RL environment. A practice space where AI learns to do real work. And the best ones are built from real company data.

Here's what that means for you. If you run a company with twenty or more people, the tickets, chats and records you already have could become a new revenue stream. You license them to AI companies for a fee, and you keep your data. It's extra income from work your team has already done.

Want to know if yours qualifies, and what it could be worth? Take the free check at AITrainingDataBroker.com/sell. It's a ten-minute form, and you get a straight yes or no. It costs nothing, and you don't sign anything.
