Hello, everyone. Here is a fear I hear from owners. If I license my company's data to AI, am I training the thing that replaces me?
It is a fair question, so let us take it seriously.
By the end, you will know what AI companies really learn from your records, what they never get, and a 2-minute test for your own business.
First, is AI already replacing people at work?
Researchers at the Yale Budget Lab and the Brookings Institution tracked US jobs since ChatGPT came out in late 2022.
Nearly 3 years later, they found no clear sign of widespread job loss from AI. Their updates through March 2026 say the same.
That does not mean nothing will change. It means the change is slower than the headlines say.
So what does that mean for your data? Before we get there, a quick word about me.
I'm Jimmy. I have worked in data at Fortune 500 companies, as a data analyst, a data engineer and a software engineer, and I am trained in data science. I am also a Canadian military veteran, where I specialized in data analysis and reporting.
Are you selling your data? We are your broker and technical advisor. We get you the best price, and we guide your team through the technical side, so your data stays private.
Are you buying data for an AI lab? We find the right data for you and see it through to delivery, so you can focus on advancing AI research.
So, let us start with the fear itself. Some people online say it plainly: sell your data, and the next AI does your job.
And part of that is true. AI companies do want records of real work, so that AI can learn to do that work.
But learning a task is not the same as taking your customers.
So what do they actually get from your records?
Here is the line. From your records, AI learns how a task moves, step by step. It learns what a good result looks like, and the common mistakes and how your team fixed them.
But your customers' names come out before anything leaves. Files you hold for clients stay out. And your team, and the trust you built over years, are not in any file.
In short, AI can learn how the work is done. It can not learn why customers choose you.
And customers have a strong view on that.
Gartner, a research firm, asked 5,728 customers about AI in customer service. 64% said they would prefer companies did not use it.
On top of that, 53% said they would think about switching to a competitor.
So people still want a person they trust. That trust lives in your team, not in your records.
Should you still be careful, then? Yes, in one case.
Because the honest answer has 3 parts.
First, AI will keep improving, with or without your records. Saying no does not stop it. It only means you are not paid.
But if your whole business is one narrow task that is easy to automate, be careful. In that case, the license should limit how the buyer may use your data.
Those limits are worked out case by case, before anyone signs. So how do you know which case you are in?
Try the why-us test. It takes 2 minutes.
First, list 3 reasons customers choose you over a competitor. Then, for each one, ask: is it written down in your files?
For most owners, the answers are things like trust, speed, or knowing the area. Those live in your people, not in your records.
But if one reason does sit in a file, like a special way you price jobs, then that part stays out of the deal. On your side, the main job is deciding what goes in, and we guide your team through it.
That is where I come in. I am your broker and technical advisor.
As your broker, I bring your company to several buyers, so you get competing offers, and I ask for the limits that protect your business. Then I work through the terms with you, and you make the final call.
As your technical advisor, I help your team decide what goes in and what stays out, and how names come out.
Nothing moves until your team signs off, and the terms are worked out case by case. As for my fee, I am paid at closing. Before that, nothing.
So, licensing your records teaches AI how work gets done. It does not hand over your customers, your team, or the trust you built.
If you run a company with 30 or more people, licensing the records you already have could become a new revenue stream, and you keep your data. Find out if yours qualifies, free, at AITrainingDataBroker.com.
Thank you for watching. See you in the next one.
