What happens to your company data in AI data licensing?

When your company's data is licensed to an AI company, where does it actually go? Who sees it? And do your customers' names end up inside an AI model?

I'll walk you through it, step by step. Five steps, one real example.

Do you run a company with thirty or more people? Stay to the end. Your old tickets and chats might be worth more than you think.

  2. It's the first question almost every owner asks me. Will my customers' names end up inside an AI model?

It's the right question to ask. Your records are full of real people. Customers, employees, suppliers.

Here's the short answer. Personal information is removed before any training. How it's done, and by whom, is written into the contract.

And it's a license, not a sale. You keep your data, and you keep using it.

Now let me show you what that looks like in practice.

  3. I'm Jimmy.

  4. Let's take a real kind of company. Say a forty-person accounting firm. Ten years of client emails, a ticket system, team chat and a CRM, their customer records system.

Step one: we count. Not files, just counts. How many tickets, emails and chats, how many years, which tools. You send numbers, not data.

Step two: what you own. Your own internal work, like checklists, procedures and how your team solves problems, is yours to license. Files you keep for clients under a contract usually stay out, and so do things like patient records and payment card numbers.

Step three: offers. Buyers see a short summary, never your files, and they make offers. You choose one, or none.

Step four, only after you accept: the data is exported and de-identified. On your side, that's mostly exporting, and we help. The de-identification is the technical part, and it's the next slide.

Step five: the lab gets a clean copy under a license. Your original stays with you.

  5. Here's one line from a support ticket. Sarah Chen approved the refund for Acme Dental.

There are two ways to hide those names. The first is to black them out. That protects people, but it wrecks the record. The AI can't tell who did what anymore.

The better way is consistent stand-ins. Sarah becomes Employee 632. Everywhere. In every email, every chat, every ticket. Acme Dental becomes Client 18.

The technical name for this is pseudonymization. It means real names are swapped for stand-ins that stay the same everywhere.

So the AI can still follow the story. The same person asked, approved and followed up. It just never learns who she is.

Email addresses, phone numbers, street addresses and card numbers are removed. The goal is simple: no real person can be identified.

How it's done, and by whom, is written into the contract. Every deal spells it out.

  6. So what does the lab do with Employee 632 and Client 18?

It turns your records into real tasks. Handle this refund. Answer this client's question. Close this ticket.

Then it writes a grader. Think of an answer key. Was the refund issued? Was the client told?

The AI tries the task, gets a score, and tries again. Thousands of times. That's how it learns office work.

I explain this in detail in my video on RL environments. RL stands for reinforcement learning. The link is in the description.

The point for you: the AI learns how the work gets done. Not who did it.

  7. Now let's turn this to your company. These are the records that usually qualify.

Support tickets that were closed with a resolution. Team chat where a decision got made. Email threads with customers.

Your CRM history: quotes sent, deals won and lost. Job and project records. And your own procedures and checklists.

What usually stays out: files you keep for clients under a contract, patient records, privileged legal files and payment card numbers.

Here's a quick test. If a new hire read your old tickets and chats, could they learn the job? If yes, that's what AI companies are looking for.

  8. Is there real money in this? In August, Google agreed to pay ten million dollars for Spirit Airlines' operating records. Reuters and CNN reported it. Most deals are much smaller, but it shows that ordinary business records now have a buyer.

So where does a broker fit? First, competing offers. One buyer gives you one price. Several buyers give you the best price.

Second, the data. We help you export it and transfer it safely, and only after you've accepted an offer.

Third, the contract. Who removes personal information, how the raw files are handled, how long the license runs. Every deal is different. We negotiate it for you, case by case. Each deal is insured by a third-party insurer, and the contract is reviewed by third-party counsel.

And I only get paid when a deal closes.

  9. So that's the whole path. Your data stays in your systems until you say yes. Personal information comes out before training. And the AI learns how the work gets done, not who did it.

Here's what that means for you. If you run a company with thirty or more people, the tickets, chats and records you already have could become a new revenue stream. You license them to AI companies for a fee, and you keep your data. It's extra income from work your team has already done.
